STARTS Prize for Social Good

Acronym of Science + Technology + the Arts, STARTS is an initiative funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program starting from 2015. After the open call “City of the future”, the first initiative launched from Nesta Italia in the context of the STARTS Regional Center in Piedmont, the Prize for Social Good celebrates the importance of artists in the processes of scientific and technological development.

What is the STARTS Prize for Social Good?

It’s the second initiative launched by the STARTS Regional Center in Piedmont – following the open call “City of the future” – on the occasion of the sixth edition of the STARTS Prize  of the European Commission. 

The STARTS Prize for Social Good is launched by Nesta Italia in collaboration with Fondazione CRT and OGR Torino, promoted in collaboration with Ars Electronica.

Through the awarding of two cash prizes of 15.000 euros each, the Prize for Social Good aims to enhance, support and give visibility to cutting edge researches and productions at the intersection of science, technology and the arts.

Who’s this Prize for?

Artists and creatives, designers and architects;  researchers, developers and engineers: the professional background doesn’t matter, what is relevant for the aims of the Prize is a proven expertise in cross-sectoral projects linking science, technology and the arts.  To give you an idea, have a look at the winners of STARTS Prize past editions.

Anyone over the age of 18 years.

People of any nationality residing in a European Union member State.

Have you decided to apply? Here’s what to do

Go to the official STARTS Prize for Social Good entry platform at this link; sign up and fill in the forms to complete your profile.

After completing this stage you can submit your project. The application can only be sent when all the required fields have been filled in. Candidates will receive confirmation by email of the acceptance of the application.

Submissions deadline is at 12:00 am CET on Wednesday 7th of April 2021.

The Jury Committee

Submissions to the STARTS Prize for Social Good will be evaluated by an international Jury Committee: you can discover more about the members of the jury at this link.

The STARTS Prize for Social Good is a new opportunity in the context of the STARTS Prize, an initiative that for over five years has been promoting the best and most innovative collaborations between science, technology and art, offering international visibility thanks to the collaboration with Ars Electronica, which hosts the award editions within the annual Prix and Festival in Linz.
